The 2012 officers and board of directors of the AREAA local chapter are Nick Pham, president/CEO of PN Real Estate Group, president; Alex Wang (Rainmaker Properties), president-elect & vice president; Michelle Lin (Red Wave Insurance), treasurer; Atsuko Yube (Stonecastle Land & Home Financial, Inc.), secretary; Lana Nguyen (Farmers Insurance), Joe Han (Keller Williams), Ashley Le (Century21-Alpha), Jimmy Kang (Wells Fargo), Ugesh Singh (RE/MAX Accord), Aaron Simonson (Wells Fargo Home Mortgage), Evan Huynh and Keiko Okubo (Okubo Real Estate/RE/MAX Accord), directors.

The Asian Real Estate Association of America is a nonprofit professional trade organization founded in 2003 and dedicated to promoting sustainable homeownership opportunities in Asian American communities and advocating for policy positions at the national level that will reduce homeownership barriers facing Asian Americans. The Silicon Valley chapter of the organization was established two years ago. AREAA's membership represents a broad array of real estate, mortgage and housing-related professionals that serve the diverse Asian American market.

Representatives from REALTOR® associations in the Bay Area attended the event and personally congratulated the new officers and board of directors. They included John Wong, past president of the San Francisco Association of REALTORS® and founding chairman of AREAA; Christine Kim, founding president of the AREAA's Silicon Valley Chapter; and Silicon Valley Association of REALTORS® president Suzanne Yost.

Yost congratulated the 2012 leadership and emphasized the importance of reducing homeownership barriers for people of all races. "The goal of the Silicon Valley Association of REALTORS® is to promote homeownership for everyone, regardless of race, creed or color. We are happy to partner with AREAA to achieve this goal and extend our support to its members," Yost said. "We look forward to continue working together in 2012 to widen opportunities for all."

At a past seminar hosted by the AREAA Silicon Valley chapter, John Fukuda, the national chair of the Asian Real Estate Association of America, told REALTORS® that 20 percent of Asian Americans feel discriminated in this country. He reiterated AREAA's goal to educate real estate professionals on how to better serve the needs of Asian Americans in their market.

As Pham formally assumed his role as the local chapter's 2012 president, he stated, "I am looking forward to further carry out our mission in promoting sustainable homeownership opportunities in Asian American communities throughout. With a full calendar of events and activities we are planning for this year, I hope to provide our real estate professionals with tools and knowledge to better serve the dynamic market we are in."

Members of AREAA are actively engaged in the field of real estate sales and brokerage, property management, mortgage banking, and real estate development. Regular activities of the association include monthly lunch meetings, which serve as forums for feature speakers to discuss contemporary and critical real estate issues and for networking with other real estate professionals.
