This week, for the 12th consecutive year, volunteers from SILVAR lent a helping hand to seniors and the homebound in their communities through SILVAR's REALTOR(R) Service Volunteer Program (RSVP). The seniors, who ranged in age from their early 60s to 100 years old, were more than grateful for the help they received.

On Wednesday, over 40 SILVAR members joined hundreds of REALTORS(R) from across the state in Sacramento for Legislative Day, the time of year when California REALTORS(R) personally meet with their legislators and discuss issues affecting the industry, their clients and their business. REALTORS(R) make up the largest group to visit Sacramento each year and speak to their local state Assembly and Senate representatives.

Over 30 SILVAR members and guests attended Menlo Park/Atherton District's Woodside Vineyards/AutoVino wine tasting event held Tuesday evening at the facility in Menlo Park. Members were treated to an assortment of good tasting wine and were able to check out the assortment of vintage and exotic cars stored in the same place.

Members of SILVAR's Global Business Council and other SILVAR members celebrated the Lunar New Year with a potluck featuring an array of Chinese and other international dishes and learning about foreign exchange services and the transfer of money to and from abroad.

SILVAR's 2013 President Carolyn Miller and Board of Directors were installed last night at the Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club in Menlo Park. California Association of REALTORS(R) President Don Faught administered the oath of office to this year's leadership team. Serving as emcee for the evening was SILVAR NAR Director John Tripp.

The Los Altos Mountain View District celebrated the holidays with a special breakfast at the Los Altos Country Club early this month. 2012 District Chair Denise Welsh thanked members for participating in District tour meetings and activities this year. On behalf of the District's members and District Council, 2013 District Chair Bonnie Kehl also thanked Welsh for her hard work throughout the year. Welsh has been the Los Altos/Mountain View District Chair for the past two years.

The Los Gatos/Saratoga District ushered in a new year with the longtime tradition of passing of the gavel to the new district chair at the La Rinconada Country Club, Los Gatos last Thursday. 2013 District Chair Cassie Maas thanked members for their participation this year. She especially thanked members of this year's Los Gatos/Saratoga District Council: Dennis Byron, Kevin Cole, Doug Evans, Mary Kay Groth, Ian Macrae, David Tonna, John Tripp, Mark Von Kaenel and Darrell Monda. Maas then passed the gavel on to 2013 Los Gatos/Saratoga District Chair Karen Trolan.

Members of SILVAR's Palo Alto District celebrated the holidays and the end of the 2012 term last Friday with a special breakfast and entertainment by professional pianist/composer Benjamin Belew and Kyoko Shimozaki, soprano singer with the Bay Area Opera.
