SILVAR's 2014 leadership team was installed last night at Villa Ragusa in Campbell. California Association of REALTORS® 2014 President Kevin Brown administered the oath of office to SILVAR's new president and board of directors. C.A.R. 2013 President Don Faught served as the evening's emcee.

David Tonna, a REALTOR® and broker associate with Alain Pinel Realtors, was installed as 2014 President; Christopher Isaacson, a REALTOR® with Coldwell Banker in Woodside, President-elect; and Phyllis Carmichael, a REALTOR® with Coldwell Banker in Los Altos, Treasurer.

Joining the three lead officers as this year's board directors are Carolyn Miller (RE/MAX Real Estate Services), past president; Suzanne Yost (Alain Pinel Realtors), Region 9 Chair; Lehua Greenman (Coldwell Banker), Menlo Park/Atherton District Chair; Jeff Beltramo (Coldwell Banker), Palo Alto District Chair; Bonnie Kehl and Joe Brown (Coldwell Banker), Los Altos/Mountain View District Co-chairs; Sue Bose (Referral Realty), Cupertino/Sunnyvale District Chair; Mark Von Kaenel (Keller Williams Bay Area Estates), Los Gatos/Saratoga District Chair; John Tripp (Foundation Trust), National Association of REALTORS® Director; Jeff Bell (Coldwell Banker), Mark Burns (Referral Realty), Eileen Giorgi (Keller Williams Bay Area Estates), Bill Moody (Referral Realty), Karen Trolan (Alain Pinel Realtors), Directors At-large; and Simon Offord (The Law Offices of Peter Brewer), Affiliate Chair.

Tonna has been a REALTOR® for 25 years and a SILVAR member for nearly a decade. He is a past chair of the Los Gatos/Saratoga District and served on SILVAR's board of directors from 2004 to 2007, and then again from 2009 till the present. He also has served as a C.A.R. Region 9 Director since 2005, and has been a member of numerous committees, including Education, PRDS Forms, Budget and Finance, Political Action Committee, Pro Standards. He was chair of the Bay Area REALTORS® Leadership Academy (BARLA).

A strong supporter of organized real estate, Tonna noted organized real estate has raised the quality in the way real estate professionals practice with its strict enforcement of the REALTOR® Code of Ethics. Tonna highlighted the accomplishments of REALTORS®, from promoting homeownership, protecting private property rights, to advancing the professionalism of the industry.

Last night's event included the presentation of the following awards by 2013 President Carolyn Miller and Executive Officer Paul Cardus:

REALTOR® of the Year: Moise Nahouraii (Referral Realty). A well-respected broker in the REALTOR® community, Nahouraii is a strong supporter of SILVAR. He has always been fully engaged in the REALTOR® Service Volunteer Program (RSVP), shares his knowledge, experience and talent at marketing meetings, and never hesitates to help in any way he can. Miller said, "He is always making things work either by his participation and experience, his time and his sponsorship of association programs and activities."

Affiliate of the Year: Nancy Domich (Old Republic Title Company). Domich was recognized for her commitment and participation in SILVAR activities for many years. Domich was a REALTOR® for 11 years and has worked in escrow and the title industry for 23 years. Miller noted as affiliate chair of the Los Altos/Mountain View District last year, Domich helped organize the district's first Halloween pumpkin auction fundraiser, "which blew off the roof by making several thousand dollars for the Charitable Foundation Trust in less than an hour."

Spirit of SILVAR: Mary Kay Groth (Sereno Group). As a "dedicated person who accomplishes charitable acts without fanfare or expectation of recognition," Groth has worked tirelessly leading RSVP for the Los Gatos/Saratoga District and the community's Operation Reindeer holiday program, from raising money for gifts, to packing and delivering the items to seniors and needy families in the community.

President's Award: David Zigal. A broker and independent residential, commercial and investment properties specialist with multi-brokerage companies, Zigal was commended for still finding time to devote countless hours as chair of the PRDS Standard Forms Committee. Alongside local brokers, managers, agents, and very experienced attorneys, Zigal works to make sure all PRDS forms are current and reflective of local practice, recent laws passed, and requirements in surrounding areas.

2011 President Gene Lentz (RE/MAX Distinctive Properties) was recognized for his valuable work and contributions as 2013 C.A.R. Region 9 Chair. John Tripp (Foundation Trust) was bestowed the National Association of REALTORS® Emeritus status for having held membership in the national association as a REALTOR® for 40 years.
