Members of SILVAR's Cupertino/Sunnyvale District Valentine's Day with food and entertainment and raised money for charity at the same time. The SILVAR meeting room was all decked out with red streamers and hearts at their tour meeting on Thursday morning. Even their PowerPoint presentation featured hearts. There was food, there was entertainment, and they District even raised $1,275 for Silicon Valley Realtors® Charitable Foundation.

Christopher Bengochea's voice rang through the halls as he gave a powerful rendition of "Toreador," from the opera "Carmen," while Bill Anders serenaded members with his ukulele and very entertaining songs about Realtors and the housing market.

SILVAR Past President Mark Burns was able to get members to enthusiastically bid and bid high on a number of items donated by their colleagues. The auction items ranged from boxes of chocolates and Valentine napkins, "live jammies," certificates for haircuts and styles, spa manicures and facials, Valentine dinner reservations to popular area restaurants and antique silver jewelry.

The highlight and spirit of giving was demonstrated by Willi Krauss and District Affiliate Co-chair Laurie Klatt, as the two women commenced a bidding war on a beautiful scarf donated by Krauss. Krauss evidently cherished the scarf more than she thought she would and wanted it back. The bidding reached $120, when Krauss in the end, yielded to Klatt.

It was all in the name of charity. The money raised by the District will go to the Charitable Foundation to support District's 2008 grants to the community.
