Palo Alto District Celebrates Fall Fling
Friday, November 20, 2009
SILVAR’s Palo Alto District celebrated Fall Fling this week. The event, held at the Garden Court Hotel in Palo Alto Wednesday night, was a combined celebration of a successful Partners in Education Campaign, the recognition of the District’s committee chairs and the District Council's achievements. Members were also encouraged to sign up and be part of next year’s committees and District activities.
2009 Palo Alto District Chair John St. Clair and Dante Drummond, 2010 Palo Alto District Chair, thanked members for their dedication and active participation in the District committees and activities. They urged members to continue their involvement next year.
“We have struggled and made this happen. Continuing volunteerism has made this happen,” said St. Clair.
The following 2009 volunteers were thanked for their hard work throughout the year: John St. Clair III, Dante Drummond, Nadr Essabhoy, Judy Ellis, Robert Gerlach, Tobi Baldwin, Nancy MacLeod, Dan Dykwel, Leon Leong, Michael Hall, Lydia Kou, Valerie Smith, Candice Kistner and Kellie Morlock.
A highlight of the event was the District’s check presentation to the Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD). Michael Hall, co-chair of the Palo Alto REALTOR® Campaign for Partners in Education (PiE), presented PiE President Lois Garland with a check for $36,755 from the District’s successful Palo Alto REALTORS® PiE Campaign.
Hall thanked SILVAR members who contributed to the campaign and team captains of each office for their hard work. Hall acknowledged the schools and teachers, the parents and students who have strived to live up to high standards. He also thanked the Palo Alto Weekly and Garden Court Hotel for their consistent support of the event each year.
Hall noted this is the ninth year REALTORS® have been supporting the schools and his goal next year is to reach the $500,000 mark for total REALTOR® donations to PiE. Hall praised the students who work so hard to excel and the teachers who help them succeed.
“The REALTOR® community is proud to make this contribution. We are very proud of the high quality of education in the Palo Alto schools. As REALTORS®, we value the contributions the schools make,” Hall said. “As REALTORS® we learn the value of our business rests with the schools. Sellers reap the value of their investment and that is true even now. It’s true, even now in these unusual times. We thank the schools and teachers, parents and students, who are the hope of our future. We thank Partners in Education for their efforts to build great schools.
Partners in Education President Lois Garland thanked SILVAR members for their donation and annual support. She said, “The outpouring of donations has been impressive, even in these difficult times. It is so gratifying to have your support.”
Palo Alto Partners in Education is a nonprofit foundation dedicated to supporting Palo Alto public elementary, middle and high schools by raising money to meet classroom needs otherwise left unfunded. PiE funds support programs in art, home to school translations, math and science.
Winners of the wonderful raffle prizes and donors were: Sundance Steak House, dinner for two, won by Jeri Fink; from personal trainer Julie Smyser, a body assessment and personal training package, won by Barbara Sawyer; from Dante Drummond, a massage treatment and lunch for two at Madera, won by Grace Wu; from Marcie Wilson Photography & Design, a property listing photo package, won by Joanne Shapiro. The grand prize, a stay at Tahiti Village Resort in Las Vegas, sponsored by John St. Clair, was won by 2009 SILVAR Affiliate Chair Caroline Wolf.
