At 2006 Charity Golf Tournament, Realtors® had fun for a good cause

Tuesday, July 18, 2006

The Silicon Valley REALTORS® Charitable Foundation's 2006 Charity Golf Tournament was enjoyed by SILVAR members despite the burning heat and the event raised $37,000 for charity.

The eighth annual golf tournament was held on Monday, July 17, at the Palo Alto Golf and Country Club, beginning with registration at 10:30 a.m. and a Shotgun Start at noon. Heritage Bank of Commerce was the tournament's Hole-in-One Sponsor.

SILVAR would like to extend a special thanks to all the tournament sponsors and donors of live and silent auctions items. With their support, the golf tournament was memorable and a big success.

SILVAR tournament sponsors were: Tournament Hole-in-One Sponsor: Heritage Bank of Commerce; cart sponsor: Wells Fargo Home Mortgage; lunch sponsor: Borel Private Bank & Trust Company; lemonade sponsor: First American Exchange Company; In-Kind Donations: Mountain View Voice, Theatre Works and Willow Street Pizza.

The mood was positive, despite the blazing heat. In groups of four, SILVAR Realtors and Affiliates drove their golf carts to their respective starting holes. Awaiting golfers at each hole were creatively decorated booths, manned by representatives of Tee and Hole Sponsors, who served snacks and cool drinks to the golfers. Some attractions were the Hawaiian motif on Holes 1 and 10, sponsored by Washington Mutual; the Pirates of the Caribbean set-up on Hole 3, manned by Palo Alto Affiliates; the Wells Fargo Home Mortgage's BMW car displayed on Hole X, courtesy of Wells Fargo.

Other Tee and Hole sponsors were 1031 Advance, Inc., Alain Pinel Realtors – Los Gatos, Alliance Title Company, Atwood, Haiman & Westerberg – Attorneys At Law, California State Automobile Association, Chicago Title, Coldwell Banker – Los Altos, First Horizon Home Loans, Harrell Remodeling Inc., Lawson & Associates Mortgages Planners, Los Altos Town crier, North American Title Company, Palo Alto Affiliate Bank, PRDS Forms, Sinner Mortgage, The Tully-Wihr Company, Washington Mutual and Wells Fargo Home Mortgage (Palo Alto).

Even as temperatures shot up to 99 degrees, the more than 100 participants good-naturedly plugged along the attractive course and finished in time to celebrate at the cocktail reception, banquet dinner, auction and awards.

The celebration began with cocktails at the clubhouse at 5 p.m., followed by dinner and awards at 6:30 p.m. The live and silent auctions added to the fun of the evening. Dennis Young (RSM McGladrey), president of the SILVAR Realtors Charitable Foundation, hosted the event. Young co-chaired the golf tournament with Jimmy Klang (Wells Fargo Home Mortgage). SILVAR's 2006 President-elect Mark Burns (Coldwell Banker), served as Master of Ceremonies.

It was a delightful evening and members agreed - even those who got toasted in the sun - that everybody had an enjoyable time!
