2009 REALTOR® of the Year David Barca is a highly regarded and well-respected REALTOR®, former SILVAR president and longtime member of the Association’s Palo Alto District. He has served as Keller Williams general manager for the San Francisco Peninsula and is now operating principal, having expanded into Menlo Park, with a new Keller Williams office. Barca became a licensed real estate broker and began his real estate career with Fox and Carskadon in 1989 as a consultant to senior management prior to Fox and Carskadon's purchase by Coldwell Banker. He founded the RSVP (REALTOR® Service Volunteer Program) during his tenure as SILVAR President. The program was adopted as an official community outreach program in 2002 and has grown exponentially since its inception, providing REALTORS® and affiliates in California and Nevada the opportunity to give back to their communities by assisting the elderly and homebound each May.
As she presented Barca the special award, Keady said Barca, “by his leadership and his example, inspires us professionally and personally to bring forward the better angels of our nature.”
2009 Affiliate of the Year Bill Anders was recognized for his continuous contributions of time, effort, skills and dedication to the success of the Association, especially his involvement and sponsorship of Association meetings, events and charitable projects. Keady said Anders’ support and contributions to SILVAR “hits all the high notes. He’s always there, never late.”
2009 Spirit of SILVAR recipient Joanne Fraser was honored for inspiring the Association to an increased commitment by reaching out and responding to others in need, as a supporter and volunteer for her district’s REALTOR® Service Volunteer Program and a passionate advocate for the Silicon Valley REALTORS® Charitable Foundation. Keady noted as the 2009 Charitable Foundation president, Fraser worked diligently to ensure the continuation and success of SILVAR’s 2009 golf tournament.
“Always conscientious, informed, and committed, her dedication has empowered SILVAR to make a difference in the lives of so many people on the Peninsula and South Bay,” Keady said. “With fewer underwriters, and despite the challenges of 2009, the tournament equaled the success of the prior years, because she refused to take no for an answer.”
David Tonna and Suzanne Yost were each presented the President's Award for their work in the formation of BARLA - the Bay Area REALTOR® Leadership Academy, a new leadership training program designed to identify, train and develop existing and emerging leaders to serve and advance organized real estate.
