The heat didn't stop SILVAR members from supporting the 12th Silicon Valley REALTORS® Charitable Foundation Fundraiser "Chipping for Charity" on Monday, August 23. The event, held at the Stanford Golf Course, was enjoyed by over 125 members and guests and raised over $33,000 for charity.

There was much in store for members this year, including the Charitable Foundation "Chipping for Charity" golf tournament, Putting Contest, lunch, a Rookie Golf Camp, no host cocktail reception after the tournament, buffet dinner, awards, raffle and live and silent auctions. Silicon Valley REALTORS® Charitable Foundation President Lisa Keith greeted everyone and thanked them for supporting the annual Foundation fundraiser, which is SILVAR's biggest event of the year. SILVAR member and California Association of REALTORS® Past President Jim Hamilton served as auctioneer.

The Rookie Golf Camp, sponsored by Allied Brokers Insurance, was an added feature of this year's event. The camp proved popular, with 10 rookies receiving lessons and tips from golf pro Russ Vander Sluis of the Stanford University Golf Course. The camp was supervised by Dave Barca and Lehua Greenman.

All-day music was provided by Andoni and his trio. The evening's musical entertainment was provided by the Bob Brumbeloe Trio and sponsored by Elwood Haynes.

The tournament's first place winners were Chris Ray, Justin DeSantis, Chris Trapani and Ed Graziani. They received a foursome of golf at Stanford Golf Course, courtesy of Stanford Golf Course, plus each player received $50 gift certificate to the Stanford Golf Course Pro-Shop.

Second Place winners were Eric Trailer, Alan Loveless, John Carman, and David Olerich. They received "a little slice of paradise" only an hour away: three days, two nights in a 2-bedroom/2-bath fully-furnished condo at the Boulder Creek Golf & Country Club and a round of golf for four with carts, donated by Eric Trailer.

Third Place winners were Tim Sjobeck, C.A.R. Past President Jim Hamilton, C.A.R. Treasurer Don Faught and President-Elect Gene Lentz. They received a foursome of golf at Bodega Harbour in Bodega Bay, donated by Paul Cardus.

Other winners:
Longest Drive - Men went to Chris Ray. He received a bottle of Alhona Vineyard 2002 Merlot Carmel Valley, courtesy of HIF (Housing Industry Foundation), plus a $50 gift certificate to the Stanford Golf Course Pro-Shop.

Longest Drive – Women went to Tracie Southerland, who received a bottle of Joullian Monterey Chardonnay 2007, courtesy of HIF (Housing Industry Foundation), and a $50 gift certificate to the Stanford Golf Course Pro-Shop.

Closest to the Pin – Men went to Mike Sibilia, who received a bottle of Alhona Vineyard 2002 Merlot Carmel Valley, courtesy of HIF (Housing Industry Foundation), and a $50 gift certificate to the Stanford Golf Course Pro-Shop.

Closest to the Pin – Women went to Debbie Grammar. She received a bottle of Joullian Monterey Chardonnay 2007, courtesy of HIF (Housing Industry Foundation), and a $50 gift certificate to the Stanford Golf Course Pro-Shop.

Putting Contest winner Mike Polanski received a custom made pure copper pipe putter, donated by Bellows Plumbing, Heating, Sewer and Air-Conditioning.

Raffle Prize Winners and Donors:

  • Jimmy Kang won the grand raffle prize, two round-tripplane tickets on Southwest Airlines to any destination Southwest flies, no blackout dates ($800 value), courtesy of Southwest Airlines.
  • Don Knight won the other grand prize, a 16 GB Apple iPad with case ($800 value), donated by the Los Altos/Mountain View Broker/Manager Committee.
  • Kelly Collishaw: Genghis Khan at the Tech-Six (6) VIP Passes/tickets to the Genghis Khan exhibit at the Tech Museum from San Jose Mercury News (Exhibit ends Labor Day weekend). ($150 value)
  • Valerie Lo: $25 Gift Certificate to Maltby's Restaurant in Los Altos, from Maltby's Restaurant.

SILVAR would like to extend a special thanks to donors of all raffle and live and silent auctions items.

Proceeds from the golf tournament will go to the Silicon Valley REALTORS® Charitable Foundation, which makes grants available to numerous beneficiaries, including scholarships, family and youth programs, housing programs and various other community services in the different communities SILVAR serves.
