Cupertino/Sunnyvale District presents $1,000 in grants

Saturday, December 16, 2006

Realtors and affiliates of SILVAR’s Cupertino/Sunnyvale District presented Sunnyvale Community Services and Cupertino Community Services each with a $500 grant at the district’s tour meeting on Thursday, December 14. District Chair and SILVAR President-elect Mark  Burns presented the checks to Nancy Tivol, executive director of Sunnyvale Community Services, and Kim Fern, program director for Cupertino Community Services.

Founded in 1970, Sunnyvale Community Services is an independent, nonprofit emergency assistance agency which aims to  prevent homelessness and hunger for low-income families and to help seniors remain independent. The organization provides  financial aid, food, and other support that prevents larger problems with more expensive solutions.
Cupertino Community Services, Inc. is a private non-profit, community based agency that has been providing direct assistance and referral services to the community for more than 30 years. Founded in 1973 by three public health nurses, the Cupertino Roundup became incorporated as Cupertino Community Services in 1976.

The organization provides a continuum of basic needs, family services and housing services including information and referrals, food, clothing, shelter, affordable housing, financial assistance, and case management. The agency serves the West Valley communities of Cupertino, West San Jose, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, and Saratoga.
Both Tivol and Ferm thanked the Realtors and affiliates for their generous donations. They also said invited Realtors and affiliates to join in a different volunteer opportunities which would require just two hours of their time each week.

“We are very grateful for the continuing support that you have given our organization,” said Ferm.
