$3,500 Charitable Foundation check presented to Friends for YouthFriday, December 15, 2006
The Silicon Valley REALTORS® Charitable Foundation presented a check for $3,500 to Friends for Youth at the December 15 Palo Alto District Tour Meeting. Foundation Trustee Arvada Darnell presented the grant to Becky Cooper, executive director of Friends for Youth. Friends for Youth is dedicated to creating quality mentoring relationships for youth who need them most. The Friends for Youth Mentoring Services program creates and cultivates one-to-one friendships between adult volunteers and at-risk youth. The mentors encourage academic and personal success by spending three hours a week with their mentees for at least one year. Together, the pair might choose to work on homework, play baseball, visit the mentor’s workplace, or attend a group activity. Presenting the check to Cooper, Darnell said, “The Charitable Foundation’s grant will help provide mentors, educational and learning activities, life skills workshops, community service projects, and recreational outings for local at-risk youth.” Cooper thanked Realtors and Affiliates and told the grant will support the important program, which helps youth stay in school, avoid delinquent behavior, build skills, develop socially, and increase their opportunities to be contributing members of their community. This donation by the Charitable Foundation Trust have been made possible in part by a sponsorship from the Heritage Bank of Commerce.
