Cupertino, CA -- The 13th annual Silicon Valley Scholars Program for graduating seniors from 18 public high schools in Silicon Valley is underway. The scholars program is sponsored by the Charitable Foundation of the Silicon Valley Association of REALTORS(R), the local trade association representing 4,000 REALTOR(R) and affiliate members on the Peninsula and in the South Bay.

As the leading advocate for home ownership and housing issues, the Silicon Valley Association of REALTORS(R) joins the nation in observing Fair Housing Month in April. This year marks the 44th anniversary of the 1968 landmark Fair Housing Act, which prohibits discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status or handicap.

For more than a decade REALTORS(R) and affiliates from SILVAR have assisted seniors and the homebound with household tasks, through SILVAR's REALTOR(R) Service Volunteer Program (RSVP). Washing windows, installing smoke detector batteries, flipping mattresses, light vacuuming, dusting, replacing light bulbs, changing furnace filters and trimming bushes can mean a lot of work, especially when agents have to take time from their busy schedules. Yet each year, the RSVP volunteers all say they take away more than what they give from this experience.
