SILVAR Realtors present $2,500 to Mountain View City Library Foundation

Wednesday, November 22, 2006

- For Immediate Release –

Cupertino, CA - A grant for $2,500 was recently presented to the Mountain View City Library Foundation by the Silicon Valley Realtors® Charitable Foundation. Charitable Foundation Trustee Joanne Fraser presented the check to Nancy Vandenberg, the li-brary’s Youth Resources manager, at the Los Altos/Mountain View Realtor tour meeting held at Oregano’s Woodfire Pizza in Los Altos on Friday, Nov. 17.

Members of the Silicon Valley Association of Realtors® (SILVAR) are actively involved in giving back to the community. Through SILVAR’s Charitable Foundation, the 4,000 member nonprofit trade association provides grants available to organizations from dona-tions by its Realtor and affiliate members and friends.

Presenting the check to Vandenberg, Fraser said, “The City of Mountain View Public Li-brary is an information center for its diverse community, providing a dynamic place to share resources and ideas, to find joy in reading and to experience the power of lifelong learning.”

The library’s Teen Zone, a dedicated space for teens, was established in May of 2003. It is a physical place for young people to be connected to each other and the library, to gain access to the library’s materials and technology, and to explore the subjects that interest them. Through a grant from the Charitable Foundation in 2003, the library initiated a Teen Zone project in which young adults are selected and trained to provide mentoring, homework assistance, and resource referral to middle and high school-aged patrons.

Vandenberg thanked Realtors for supporting the library for the fourth year. She said this year’s grant to the library will fund the Teen Zone tutor/mentor program for four after-noons for 21 weeks. She noted it is commendable to see juniors and seniors mentoring kids at the library and that the support of the Charitable Foundation is critical to continu-ing this important program. She noted

“Thank you SILVAR for all your support and having us have a great program,” said Vandenberg.

This donation was made possible in part by a sponsorship from the Heritage Bank of Commerce.
