SILVAR's Palo Alto District celebrated fall on Wednesday, October 29, at the Garden Court Hotel in Palo Alto. This year, the event combined the celebration of a successful Partners in Education Campaign, the recognition of the District's committee achievements and encouraged member participation in next year's committees and District activities.

This year, REALTORS® and affiliates of SILVAR's Palo Alto District presented the Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD) a check for $40,025 from their successful Palo Alto REALTORS® Campaign for Partners in Education (PIE).

Michael Hall of Alain Pinel Realtors, chair of the Palo Alto REALTOR® Campaign for Partners in Education, thanked the 81 individual donors and 10 affiliates and brokers who contributed to the campaign. Hall acknowledged the schools and teachers, the parents and students who have strived to live up to high standards. He also thanked the Palo Alto Weekly and Garden Court Hotel for their consistent support of the event each year.

"The REALTOR® community is proud to make this contribution," said Hall. "We are very proud of the high quality of education in the Palo Alto schools. As REALTORS®, we value the contributions the schools make. As REALTORS® we learn the value of our business rests with the schools. Sellers reap the value of their investment and that is true even now. We thank the schools and teachers, parents and students, who are the hope of our future. We thank Partners in Education for their efforts to build great schools."

Partners in Education President Lois Garland thanked SILVAR members for their donation and annual support. She said, "It is so gratifying to have your support. The end result is the students get better and better."

Palo Alto Partners in Education is a nonprofit foundation dedicated to supporting Palo Alto public elementary, middle and high schools by raising money to meet classroom needs otherwise left unfunded. PIE funds support programs in art, home to school translations, math and science.

Palo Alto District Chair Nadr Essabhoy, Chair-elect John St. Clair III and SILVAR President Leannah Hunt then thanked members for their dedication and active participation in District committees and activities. They urged members to continue their involvement next year and introduced new 2009 chairs of the District's committees. They include: Nancy MacLeod - Tour Committee Chair; Michael Hall - PIE Chair; Lydia Kou – Chair and Emily Cohen - Co-Chair for RSVP; Anne Arjani – Chair & Mike Colyer – Co-Chair for Technology/Education; Leon Leong & Dan Dykel – Co-Chairs for Local Government Relations; Bob Gerlach - Broker/Manager Chair; Valerie Smith – Chair & Rita Lo – Co-Chair for Special Events; Candice Kistner & Kelly Morlock - Affiliate Co-Chairs; and Tobi Baldwin - Communication/Membership Chair 2009 PA District Chair-Elect.

"I can't say enough about our volunteers," said St. Clair III. "We should be very proud of our district."

"We need to generate new leaders and new leadership," said Hunt. "Our Association can't continue without volunteers. We have got great a group of REALTORS® and do well because we have a great understanding of our industry."
