Silicon Valley REALTORS® Charitable Foundation  Trustee Jimmy Kang presents the $1,000 scholarship grant to Emily Fowler, graduating senior from Palo Alto High School.

The Silicon Valley REALTORS® Charitable Foundation, the charitable arm of the Silicon Valley Association of REALTORS®, presented scholarship awards to 18 graduating seniors from public high schools in Silicon Valley at the end of the 2009-2010 school year. Each student received a $1,000 scholarship.

Now in its 11th year, the REALTOR® scholarship program recognizes students who have exemplified outstanding achievements in academics, extracurricular/employment activities and community involvement. The selection committee included representatives from the local business community, area high schools, area colleges and the Silicon Valley Association of REALTORS®.
 
Students who received scholarships from the Foundation, the schools from which they graduated, and the colleges and universities they will be attending are: Max Jean-Michel Pommier, Cupertino High School (Yale University); Victoria Salazar, Fremont High School (University of San Francisco); Samuel Franklin Zeif, Gunn High School (Brown University); Woogean Daniel Kim, Homestead High School (UC Berkeley); Maiko Hermsmeier, Leigh High School (UC San Diego; Flora Julie Champenois, Los Altos High School (UC Berkeley); Autefeh Sajjadi, Los Gatos High School (UC Berkeley); Emily Cheng, Lynbrook High School (Stanford University); Gonzalo Alvarez, Menlo-Atherton High School (Undecided); Naicheng Wangyu, Monta Vista High School (Yale University); Kevin McKee, Mountain View High School (Princeton University); Emily Fowler, Palo Alto High School (Occidental College); Adeela Sohail, Prospect High School (UC Santa Cruz); Katherine Ardizzone, Santa Clara High School (CSU Fresno); Sulmaan Mohammed Hassan, Saratoga High School (UC Davis); Ubah Dimbil, Westmont High School (Stanford University); Kathryn Ann Husmann, Wilcox High School (Wheaton College); and Brian Scott Ranes, Woodside School (UC Santa Barbara).

"We are very happy we are able to assist the deserving winners as they embark on their college careers," said SILVAR Scholarship Chair Nina Yamaguchi. "The seniors selected for the SILVAR Scholarship Program are among the cream of the crop. We believe through our scholarship program we can help our youth achieve their dreams."

"We feel fortunate to be able to give back to the community and to our youth through our scholarship program," said Lisa Keith, president of the Silicon Valley REALTORS® Charitable Foundation. "By providing scholarships to these very deserving individuals, we can help our local students succeed and achieve their dreams."

Representatives of the Silicon Valley Association of REALTORS® attended senior award ceremonies at the various high schools and personally presented the scholarships to the deserving students. They also thanked the teachers and staff in each high school for their help and participation in making this program the success that it is.

SILVAR members who presented the Charitable Foundation awards to the scholars were Chris Alston (Keller Williams), Rob Zokaei (Flexar Group), Vicki Geers (Coldwell Banker), Vivian Wang (Coldwell Banker), Sami Asfour (Keller Williams); Joanne Fraser (Coldwell Banker), Raylene Khan (Sereno Group), Mark Burns (Coldwell Banker), Mary Tan (Coldwell Banker), Jimmy Kang (Wells Fargo Home Mortgage), James Dill (Keller Williams), Sue Bose (Referral Realty), Bev Harada (Sereno Group), Russell Morris (Coldwell Banker) and Amir Shahkarami (Intero Real Estate Services).

The scholarship program is a partnership effort between the Silicon Valley REALTORS® Charitable Foundation and educators. Scholarship recipients are selected from the high schools in the communities served by the 4,000 members of the Silicon Valley Association of REALTORS®.
