Thursday, November 18, 2010

SILVAR's Palo Alto District celebrated Fall Fling on Thursday, November 18, at the Masonic Lodge in Palo Alto. Fall Fling is an occasion for Palo Alto REALTORS® and affiliates to mix and network, and to learn about opportunities available to each district member to engage and participate in the process and benefits of organized real estate. This annual celebration honors Palo Alto District members who have contributed to the real estate community and community at large.

Dante Drummond, 2010 Palo Alto District Chair, and Nancy Macleod, Fall Fling Chair and Palo Alto District Council Chair-elect, welcomed members and urged them to continue their involvement next year. Music was provided by "Chaz Mason" and a special dance performed by Bhangra dancers from Palo Alto High School provided great entertainment.  There were many raffle drawings and games during the evening.

A highlight of the event was the recognition of Roberta Yee, who was bestowed the National Association of REALTORS® status of REALTOR® Emeritus for 40 cumulative years of membership in NAR and providing a valuable and lasting contribution to the real estate profession in the community.

Another highlight was the District's Partners in Education (PiE) campaign check presentation. Desiree Docktor, 2010 chair of the Palo Alto REALTOR® Campaign for Partners in Education (PiE), presented Palo Alto Unified School District Superintendent Kevin Skelly and Mandy Lowell, PiE Vice President for Development - Community, a check for $30,740 from the District's successful PiE campaign. Docktor thanked SILVAR members who contributed to the campaign and team captains of each office for their hard work. They included Jane Volpe, Lisa Wittkopf, Erika Schuman-Fitch, Steve Greenbaum, Sharon Witte, Jennifer Buenrostro, Brian Chancellor, Michael Dreyfus, Monica Arima-Yeung, Amy Sung and Arlene Gault.

Palo Alto Partners in Education is a nonprofit foundation dedicated to supporting Palo Alto public elementary, middle and high schools by raising money to meet classroom needs otherwise left unfunded. PiE funds support programs in art, home to school translations, math and science.
