Approximately 40 people attended the first annual Heritage Appreciation Potluck Mixer, hosted by SILVAR's Equal Opportunity Committee last Thursday evening, October 6. The event provided guests the opportunity taste different food items from around the world and network with others.

This year's event was held at the Intero Real Estate Services office in Cupertino. Guests were asked to bring a dish representing your heritage or culture. Each dish was then labeled with the name of the donor, its culture or heritage and ingredients. The result was a wide array of dishes, including Chinese chicken salad, steamed veggie buns, and cucumber salad; Vietnamese spring rolls; Hawaiian spam masumi; the traditional British cucumber sandwiches; Irish cheese pudding; baghali ghatogh from the Caspian Region; Persian ghaymeh with basmati rice, kabab bareh and kashko bademjan; Philippine adobo spareribs, beef caldereta and pancit bihon; jambalaya from the south; Indian style chickpeas; New England slosh and clam chowder; and desserts like old-fashioned American apple pie, peach melba dessert, sesame balls with red bean paste, haupia, pineapple upside down cake and leche flan.

SILVAR Equal Opportunity Committee Chair Tess Crescini welcomed everyone, thanked event sponsors and Intero Real Estate Services in Cupertino for providing the venue for this year's event. "This event is one way we feel we can outreach to members and spread diversity," said Crescini. "We hope to have a similar event each year and rotate the venue to the different real estate companies within SILVAR's five districts. It's a way we can all participate, get involved in an association event, and celebrate our diversity through food."

Thank you event sponsors for your support: Kenneth Chan – HSBC; Kyle Chuang – KC Associates Insurance; Inc.; Kim Herrera – Insight Home Services; Miranda Jung and Sarhan Koshkarli – Bank of America (Palo Alto); Tony Lacy-Thompson - The Mortgage Forum; and Richard Miller.
