REALTOR® Action Fund - Fighting For Our Profession
Did you know that over 30% of all proposed legislation introduced in Sacramento each year impacts Realtors®? That amounts to over one thousand bills each year, most of which affect Realtors® liability. Last year, C.A.R.'s legislative advocacy saved each Realtor® over $13,000. At the local level, there are many issues that directly affect Realtors® and their clients, including zoning rules, tree ordinances, sign laws, and business license fees.
As a result of Realtor support in 2005, SILVAR stopped a 20 percent tax on real estate commissions in Atherton, blocked an unfair business license tax in Cupertino, defeated discriminatory anti-Realtor zoning in Menlo Park, organized and helped fund the campaign to defeat three anti-growth initiatives in Cupertino, stepped up to the plate to protect the mortgage interest deduction, and much more.
In 2006, we must continue our efforts to block the unfair application of business license taxes on real estate agents, protect the mortgage interest deduction, keep banks out of real estate, defend the MLS system from an unwise Justice Department lawsuit, and stay on top of many state and local issues.
Member contributions to the REALTOR Action fund are critical to the political advocacy necessary to defend the interests of Realtors, homeowners and property rights locally, in Sacramento, and in Washington, D.C.
