The 2017 leadership group of the Asian Real Estate Association of America Silicon Valley chapter (AREAA SV) was formally installed on Jan. 12 at the San Jose City Hall Rotunda. Representatives from the Silicon Valley Association of Realtors (SILVAR) joined other real estate professionals in the Bay Area and AREAA officials from other chapters around the country in congratulating the 2017 AREAA SV executive board, directors and advisors.

Members of the 2017 executive board are Thomas Duong (Banc Home Loans), president; Mike Bui (Equity One Real Estate), immediate past president; Andy Chung (Alain Pinel Realtors), vice president; and Katy Care (The Loan Story), secretary. The 2017 board directors are Michelle Lin (Red Wave Insurance Services), Monaka Jackson (Alliance Credit Union), Seabea Ghoph (Keller Williams Realty), Joanna Hsu (Intero Real Estate), Dennis Delisle (Equity One Real Estate), Jagi Shahani (Alain Pinel Realtors) and Andrew Pak (Equity One Real Estate). 2017 advisors are Atsuko Yube (Global Estate Link), Linh Dang (Chicago Title Company), Lillian Wong (Union Bank) and Raj Patel (Bank of America). Special guests at the installation included AREAA founders John Yen Wong, Allen Okamoto, 2017 AREAA national president Angie Lee and past national president Carmen Chong, who administered the oath of office to the leadership group.

Duong thanked members and friends for their support. In his message to members and guests, Duong said as AREAA SV marks its seventh anniversary this year, it celebrates having made great strides in its goal of being a voice for Asian American homeownership. Duong cited AREAA's support for U.S. veterans through the group's veterans scholarship program as a valuable contribution to the community. Duong noted veterans like himself can have a difficult time adjusting and his involvement in AREAA and the support he received from members made the adjustment for him much easier.

In addition to increasing membership in the local AREAA chapter, Duong said he wants to focus on events and education. "Not only do we seek to add new members, but we want to add value to our members through our events and education," said Duong.

Founded in 2003, the Asian Real Estate Association of America is a nonprofit professional trade organization dedicated to promoting sustainable homeownership opportunities in Asian American communities by creating a national voice for housing and real estate professionals that serve the housing market. AREAA is the only trade association dedicated to representing the interests of the Asian real estate market nationwide. Membership includes housing and real estate professionals of all cultural backgrounds. AREAA's Silicon Valley chapter was formed in 2010.

"We congratulate Thomas and the 2017 AREAA leadership group and are proud to partner with them in promoting sustainable homeownership opportunities for all Asian Americans in Silicon Valley," said Denise Welsh, 2017 president of the Silicon Valley Association of Realtors. "We are looking forward to continuing our partnership and serving as a resource to AREAA and its members."

Welsh and Bill Moody, the local Realtor association's 2017 SILVAR president-elect, represented their association at the event, which was attended by over 200 representatives of the Bay Area real estate community.
