The Filipino American Real Estate Professional Association Silicon Valley (FAREPA SV) recently announced the group's 2020-2021 officers and board directors. They include Mark Taylan (Direct Mortgage Funding), president; Frank Cancilla (eXp Realty), president-elect; Anne Ramirez (Realty World Dominion), vice president; LJ Grossweiler (Patelco Credit Union), secretary; Dorotea Tuzon (State Farm Insurance), treasurer, and Cheryl Javier (CBC Realty), past president. The 2020-2021 board directors are Anna Truong Lopez (Wells Fargo Bank), Dan Ramas (Keller Williams Silicon City), Dexter Lat (Realty World One Alliance), Divina Parreno (WFG National Title Insurance), Janet Huynh (Bank of the West), Robert Balina (Synergize Realty) and Tigran Bakchagyan (Keller Williams Silicon City).

"We are privileged to have such a committed and talented group of community leaders at the helm of our organization. We anticipate that the diverse experience of our new board members will add significant value to the community," announced 2019-2020 FAREPA President Cheryl Javier.

A graduate of UCSC, Taylan began his career in financial services in 1993, when he was recruited by a major Wall Street firm to manage money for high net worth families in the Bay Area. In 2006, he obtained his real estate broker license and in 2009, opened an independent wealth management practice in Morgan Hill. He currently serves as mortgage advisor for Direct Mortgage Funding, Inc. in Los Gatos. Taylan has been a member of FAREPA SV's executive board since 2017.

The pandemic has been devastating to many industries and has created opportunities in others, said Taylan. "What is evolving is a new way of doing business. Those who can adapt have a fighting chance; others are left facing very difficult decisions. I am heartbroken for those business owners and families that are affected. My hope is that those impacted will soon find stability and new doors will open for them."

As for his business, Taylan said, "This is the busiest I have been in my life. The combination of low rates and the ability for families to work remotely has opened the possibility of relocating to the suburbs, creating an even greater demand for housing. A low interest rate environment also has allowed families to restructure and lower their household debt."

Due to COVID-19, FAREPA's annual installation ceremony will be postponed indefinitely. Mary Kay Groth, president of the Silicon Valley Association of Realtors, a longtime partner of the Filipino American real estate group, congratulated Taylan. "On behalf of the Silicon Valley Association of Realtors, I congratulate 2020-2021 FAREPA President Mark Taylan, the officers and directors. It is unfortunate due to the pandemic we cannot extend our congratulations personally, but when this crisis is over, we look forward to celebrating your group's achievements and our longtime friendship."

Members of FAREPA are actively engaged in real estate sales and development, property management, and mortgage banking. The group seeks to be a voice and a resource for the Filipino American community.

"The pandemic has forced us to be creative in delivering relevant and timely information to our members and community," said Taylan. "I am proud to say that we have adopted technologies, like Zoom and various social media platforms, very quickly."
