"Real estate is a vehicle to do anything you want to do in life. It allows you to be creative and to make money to do what you want," Brian Crane, co-founder, vice president and manager of Intero Real Estate Services Los Gatos and Santana Row offices, told SILVAR members at this week's Los Gatos/Saratoga District tour meeting.
In order to achieve success in this business, you can't be shy, Crane stressed.
"If you're shy, you might miss your destiny," Crane quoted a comment made by a father. "The same applies to real estate because shyness holds you back."
Everyone has a gift and Crane urged REALTORS® to be intent about their gifts and "take your gifts to the marketplace." But he also noted in order to succeed in the business, you need discipline. It may be a pain, but discipline does pay off, he guaranteed.
Discipline is practiced in marketing and prospecting. Marketing efforts are long-term, exercised through ads, mail, the Internet and blogging, while prospecting means face to face contact, talking to people. Both need to be done intensely and consistently, he said.
He then shared three strategies to accomplish these goals. The first strategy is built around time management.
"Don't dwell on things you have to do; just do it," Crane said.
He suggested to prioritizing tasks and making a list of at least six things that need to get done each day. "Twenty percent of all your activity is going to make you 80 percent of your money, so prioritize your list, allocate the time, plan your day with specific time slots," Crane said.
The second strategy pertains to time blocking. Crane recommends scheduling office time, at least three hours, before devoting the day to activities and execution.
The third strategy involves balance. Bring family, exercise, meditation, prayer and work into balance. When you balance these important factors in your life, you will be more creative and your gifts will show up, Crane assured REALTORS®.
