Silicon Valley REALTORS® play ball, raise over $3,200 for charity
A co-ed softball game held on Oct. 13, pitting Silicon Valley Association of REALTORS® (SILVAR) REALTOR® members of the Menlo Park/Atherton, Palo Alto and Los Altos/Mountain View districts (Team 650) against REALTOR® members of the association's Cupertino/Sunnyvale and Los Gatos/Saratoga districts (Team 408) successfully raised over $3,200 for the Silicon Valley REALTORS® Charitable Foundation.
More than 100 players and spectators gathered at the softball field in the New Portola Valley Town Center last Thursday for "A Day On the Diamond," which also featured music and a BBQ dinner. Special guests recognized at the event included Miles Rankin, 1972 Los Gatos/Saratoga REALTORS® Board president and SILVAR and California Association of REALTORS® (C.A.R.) Lifetime REALTOR® Member, and Shirley Walker, recognized this year as a SILVAR and C.A.R. Lifetime REALTOR® Member. Rick Turley, president at Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage – San Francisco Bay Area, was also spotted in the crowd, and Wendy McPherson, managing broker of Coldwell Banker Menlo Park/Woodside and Portola Valley offices, was recognized for her support, as well.
SILVAR President Gene Lentz threw the first pitch before the two REALTOR® teams played ball. With a final score of 5 to 1 at the bottom of the seventh inning, Team 408 won the game and the trophy.

Lehua Greenman, chair of the Day On the Diamond Committee, noted that the real winner of the event was the Silicon Valley REALTORS® Charitable Foundation. "I'm very happy that the Menlo Park/Atherton District could host an event that brought the entire SILVAR association together," said Greenman. "I want to thank everyone for supporting our Charitable Foundation by participating in this event, by sponsoring, playing, coaching, umpiring, hosting, cheering, and being part of a great crowd."
The Silicon Valley REALTORS® Charitable Foundation is a trust which makes grants available to organizations from donations by its REALTOR® and affiliate members and friends. "The Charitable Foundation is committed to the welfare and prosperity of the communities where SILVAR members live and work. Through our contributions and member involvement in our fundraising events, we strive to help create more productive and enriched communities," added Greenman, who is also a trustee of SILVAR's charitable foundation.
Non-profit organizations operating within the areas served by the local trade association are eligible for grant consideration provided they meet the Foundation's evaluation criteria.
