Day on the Diamond, which took place on October 15 nearly head to head with Game 3 of the NCLS San Francisco Giants vs. Saint Louis Cardinals, was almost as exciting and at times, even a nail-biter. Nearly 90 members and guests watched, as SILVAR REALTOR® members from Teams 650 (Menlo Park/Atherton, Palo Alto and Los Altos/Mountain View districts) and 408 (Cupertino/Sunnyvale and Los Gatos/Saratoga districts) vied for this year's title, which was won this time by Team 408, after a hard-fought battle. This special SILVAR-wide event was able to raise nearly $7,000 for the Silicon Valley REALTORS® Charitable Foundation.

Team 408's win this year puts both teams with two wins each, which could possibly pave the way for a playoff next year. Teams 408 and 650 have been engaged in friendly softball competition for four years. Team 408 took the title in 2011 in Portola Valley, and Team 650 won two games in Los Gatos and in Portola Valley in 2012 and last year, respectively. This year, REALTORS® from Team 408 were bent on taking the title, said Team 408 Captain Suzanne Yost.

Yost couldn't be happier and expressed her thanks to her team. "Team 408 gave their heart and soul to win the Day on the Diamond trophy for 2014. I'm proud of each and every one of them. Congratulations to Team 650 for such an exciting game," said Yost.

Team 650 Coordinator Lehua Greenman also thanked her team for the great game that they played. "Team 650 played a great game. I appreciate everyone's effort and the wonderful camaraderie among all our players from both teams," said Greenman.

The first few innings saw Team 650 in the lead, until players from Team 408 caught up with a couple of runs, tying the game 3-3. Cheers from both sides buoyed the spirits of both teams, as the players from both teams scored more runs. In the end, Team 408 came through with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take the game 7-6, and become this year's champion.

This year's event was hosted by the Team 408 at El Quito Park, Saratoga. Mike Kanuk sang the Star-Spangled Banner, while Chris Maas displayed the flag. SILVAR President David Tonna then threw the first pitch, signaling the start of the game. Jason Webb, who is with the United States Slow Pitch Softball Association, served as umpire. After the game, members and guests enjoyed a delicious barbecue meal provided by Andy's Bar-B-Que in Santa Clara.

Another highlight of the day was the drawing of prizes, donated by generous members and local businesses. Moise Nahouraii won the grand prize – the opportunity to drive a Tesla for a day. Team 408 coordinator Bill Moody won the weekend retreat at Milfiori, Gold County. Robert Reid won a two-night, three-day stay for two in a villa at the Grand Hotel, including Happy Hour.

Congratulations to Team 408 coordinator Bill Moody and Team 408 captain and coach Suzanne Yost, and to players Ryan Nunnally, Jeff Sawhill, David Messer, Frank Grengo, Brett Yoshihara, John Geritz, Lindsay Hogan, Roxanne Weisinger, Steve Leonardis, Cassie Maas, Omied, Keith Walker, Wendy Marioni, and Chris Morris (third base coach).

Congratulations to Team 650 for playing an exciting game, to Team 650 coordinator Lehua Greenman, coaches Tim Anderson and Jim Milton, and players Buffy Bianchini, David Blockhus, Joe Carcione, James Horn, David Kelsey, Brad Miller, Wendi Selig-Aimonetti, Tammy Tiscornia-Cole, Tam Turner, and Wendi Selig-Aimonetti.
