Los Altos/Mountain View District Celebrates the Holidays
Members of SILVAR's Los Altos/Mountain View District celebrated the holidays with a special breakfast at the Los Altos Golf & Country Club last Friday. 2014 District Co-chairs Bonnie Kehl and Joe Brown thanked everyone for coming to the special event and for supporting the District's tour meetings and programs all year. Members were entertained with a beautiful rendition of holiday songs by the Los Altos/Mountain View High School Madrigal Singers.
During the breakfast, both Kehl and Brown highlighted major accomplishments of the local realtor district, which included its second annual pumpkin auction, in which members raised $4,650 for the Silicon Valley REALTORS® Charitable Foundation. The district also raised $2,000 from donations at two Legal Update sessions held during the year, part of which was donated to the Charitable Foundation.
The District then presented $1,200 raised from the November Legal Update to Tom Myers, executive director of Community Services Association (CSA). CSA provides direct services, advocacy, and referrals to Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, and Mountain View residents with economic, physical, or social needs.
Also during the event, the Silicon Valley REALTORS® Charitable Foundation presented a check for $2,500 to Judy Hannemann, board chair for JustREAD, a cross-generational program composed of retired professionals in the Los Altos and Mountain View communities who are trained as tutors to teach reading and writing basics to students who did not learn these skills in earlier grades.
Both Kehl and Brown thanked members of the 2014 district council, noting without their help and support, the district's projects would not be possible. Their team included Trish Eby (Membership), Denise Welsh (Broker/Manager), Suzanne O'Brien and David Kim (Community Outreach/ REALTOR® Service Volunteer Program), Kehl and Joe Brown (Tour Meeting Program), Barb Williams (Local Government Relations), John Woodfin (Affiliate), Susan Sweeley and Nancy Domich (Charitable Foundation/Grievance), Katherine Frey (Chair-elect/Social), Dennis Bower (YPN), Nancy Carlson (Tour Policy & Sign Ordinance), and Judy Jen (Education).
