Good Turnout at Joint District Bocce Ball Tournament
Congratulations to the bocce ball tournament's winning team: Team #10 with Karen Fryling, Rebecca Johnson, Tamara Pulst and John Sieling.
Members of the Menlo Park/Atherton and Palo Alto districts had fun at their first joint bocce ball tournament on Tuesday at Burton Park in San Carlos. More than 50 members and guests attended the event. A total of 11 teams were formed.
Congratulations to all the winners! First place went to Team #10 with Karen Fryling, Rebecca Johnson, Tamara Pulst and John Sieling; second place went to Team #5 with Lehua Greenman, Kelly Griggs, Chris McDonnell and Jim Milton; and third place, Team #2 with Omar Kinaan, Irene Liu, Penelope Huang and Joe Carcione.
Members enjoyed the park setting, the ideal weather, friendly competition and networking with pizza, salad and beverages. In addition, a raffle of Italian gift baskets took place, with Judy Chow and Brett Caviness winning the prizes.
District chairs Davena Gentry and Robert Reid deemed the event a success. They were both pleased with the turnout.
"We had a very excellent turnout. A lot of people who didn't know how to play the game learned that they really liked bocce ball," said Reid.
"It was the first time both districts collaborated on an event and it was very successful. Maybe this will encourage other districts to collaborate in future events," said Gentry.
