Over 100 SILVAR members from the Los Altos/Mountain View District attended a special breakfast held at Los Altos Golf & Country Club last Friday, where they celebrated the holidays and accomplishments of the year.
District Chair Katherine Frey thanked members and the local brokers for their support at tour meetings and programs held this year. Members of this year's district council were recognized. Along with Frey, they are Bonnie Kehl (Coldwell Banker), Dennis Bower (Alain Pinel Realtors), Nancy Carlson (Intero Real Estate Service), Trish Eby (Catarra Real Estate), Judy Jen (The Jen Company), Suzanne O'Brien (Intero Real Estate Service), Susan Sweeley (Alain Pinel Realtors), Denise Welsh (Alain Pinel Realtors), Barbara Williams (Alain Pinel Realtors), Dani Fletcher (Sereno Group) and John Woodfin (EverBank).
During the week of May 4-8, as part of the annual Realtor Service Volunteer Program (RSVP), 22 volunteers from the District assisted 30 senior households in Los Altos and Mountain View. The District raised over $3,000 for charity during its third annual pumpkin auction in October. The district also raised a total of $1,255 through member donations for Community Services Agency (CSA) at its bi-annual Legal Updates.
CSA executive director Tom Meyers received the check at Friday's holiday breakfast. Meyers thanked SILVAR members for their continuing support. He said SILVAR's donation is a lifeline for the low income in the communities of Los Altos, Los Altos Hills and Mountain View. CSA provides emergency services like one-time rent and utility financial support, vouchers for clothing, eyeglasses, school supplies, food and more.
Meyers said while Silicon Valley's economy is booming, there are many people, mostly seniors, who are having a very hard time making ends meet, especially those whose rents have gone up. "Many seniors have lived here for years. This is their home. Their support systems are here, friends, relatives, doctors. Your help is invaluable to them," said Meyers.
Members were entertained this year by the Mountain View Graham Middle School choir who sang a mix of holiday songs and popular music.
