Global Business Council Chair Mark Wong and Executive Officer Paul Cardus accepted the NAR Platinum Award for Global Achievement the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Conference & Expo.
More than 19,000 REALTORS® and guests from across the country and the globe attended the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Conference & Expo in Orlando, FL. on November 4-7. Officially representing SILVAR's leadership team there were President Karen Trolan, President-elect Denise Welsh, NAR Directors Leannah Hunt and Chris Isaacson, and Executive Officer Paul Cardus.
A highlight of the conference was NAR's recognition of SILVAR's dedication to raising members' awareness of global business. For the fourth straight year SILVAR was presented the NAR Platinum Award for Global Achievement. Global Business Council Chair Mark Wong and Cardus accepted the award for SILVAR.
Another highlight was the installation of Bill Brown, a second generation REALTOR® from Alamo, California, as NAR's 2017 president. Brown was NAR's 2016 president-elect and 2015 first vice president. He has served in numerous positions at the local, state and national levels, Brown was elected president of the Oakland Association of REALTORS® in 1984. Brown also served as California Association of REALTORS® 2008 president.
The REALTORS® and guests at the conference had the opportunity to attend 100-plus sessions on a broad range of real estate issues, including emerging market, business and industry trends; changing buyer and seller demographics; housing affordability issues from credit and inventory constraints; the health of commercial lending markets, global events and their impact on international real estate transactions; and how the changing political landscape from a new administration and Congress could affect the real estate industry in the years ahead.
REALTORS® also discussed topics to further NAR's efforts to protect consumers in the real estate transaction, expand business opportunities for members and homeownership for consumers, and promote healthy residential and commercial markets in 2017 and beyond.
At the conference Brown reiterated NAR's commitment to helping more Americans achieve the dream of homeownership, and the association's work to forge a legislative and regulatory landscape that is favorable to that mission. He highlighted the need to protect the mortgage interest deduction and preserve a secondary mortgage market that ensures liquidity sufficient to provide safe, affordable mortgage credit to all qualified borrowers.
