The Menlo Mustangs and the Menlo Oaks vied for the coveted title of winner at this year's Day on the Diamond, held at Burgess Park in Menlo Park on Wednesday, August 8, with the Mustangs receiving the honors, 7-4.
The weather cooperated and both teams enjoyed the friendly rivalry, with Paul Skrabo as the captain of Mustang players Angelo Rossi, Frankie Stamey, Tara Marinaro, Stephanie Savides, Mark Larson, Fred Stamey, Tony Fergoso, Alan Loveless, John Matlock, Paul Ceurello and Pat Farris; and Ted Rossi, captain of Menlo Oaks players Joe Bentley, Colten Daines, Johnathan Guerrero, Ramin Mahayer, Joe Carcione, Tim Blake, John Conlon, Chris Isaacson, Millie Spino, Kathy Banks and Shawna Banks. Ulysses "Happy" Grant was the umpire.
SILVAR Director Gene Lentz, chair of the Menlo Park/Atherton District, served as the announcer, maintaining his objectivity by rooting for both teams. Co-chairs of this event were Lehua Greenman and Judi Kiel.
"This event was another opportunity for our District and others within SILVAR to come together and share camaraderie and have fun playing co-ed softball and experience a different form of team work," said Greenman. "It was also an opportunity to bring family members to watch, get together and enjoy each other in a different setting."
"Paul Skrabo and Ted Rossi played an exciting game with a nail-biting score of 7-4," said Kiel. "The winniner team had a victory party at the Dutch Goose in Menlo Park. We had a great turn-out. It was fun just to get together and relax, with especially good food, wine, and beer!"
"A proverbial good time was had by all, and this was the purpose of it all. Everyone enjoyed it. We haven't ruled out taking on other districts in a challenged match next year," said Lentz.
