Eighty-five SILVAR members attended the December Menlo Park-Atherton-Palo Alto Joint Eventure Series and Holiday Reception held at the Palo Alto Hills Golf & Country Club early this month. Before their holiday reception, members first tackled serious business regarding the impact of wildfires and other disasters like earthquakes and floods, so they can learn more about these issues for the benefit of their clients.
Chris Isaacson, managing broker of the Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage offices in Menlo Park, Woodside and Portola Valley, served as moderator for a panel which included Steve Fox with Allied Brokers, Lynda Foster with California Earthquake Authority, Jim Breen with State Farm, and Joshua Cantrell, JCP-LGS Hazard Disclosures. Isaacson delved into a number of topics based on the expertise of the panelists. Among the issues discussed were disclosures, the Natural Hazard Disclosure report and sources of maps the report uses, how often flood maps are changed, comparing private and federal flood insurance, how often insurance companies inspect homes before issuing new policies, the difference between admitted and non-admitted carriers, the basis for variations in premiums for earthquake insurance, and whether homeowners should consider retrofitting as an alternative to earthquake insurance.
After the panel discussion, both Districts marked the end of the year achievements with a festive holiday reception. Menlo Park-Atherton District Chair Jasmine Lee and Palo Alto District Chair Lynn Wilson Roberts thanked members for their support and their respective District Councils for devoting their time to this year's Joint Eventure Series programs.
Members of the 2019 Menlo Park-Atherton District Council are Lee, Isaacson, Michael Hall, Nikki James, Francesca Lampert and Stacey Woods. Members of the Palo Alto District Council are Roberts, Lori Buechler, Kelly Griggs, Nikki James, Bob Stelzer, Anne Wilson Roberts and Stacey Woods.
