SILVAR's 2024 General Membership Meeting began with President Eileen Giorgi and CEO Paul Cardus welcoming members and delivering reports, and later interrupted by overwhelming applause when Cardus announced that there will be no member dues increase in 2025.
Georgi expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Association staff, board members, the leadership team, and volunteers who worked alongside her this year. She mentioned the successful launching of SILVAR Lunch & Learn sessions, the Liaison Program, and expanded member engagement through Thursday @ SILVAR virtual meetings and networking events.
"Together, we've achieved significant milestones that have propelled our Association forward and strengthened our mission. Your commitment and enthusiasm have not only fueled our achievements but have also inspired our team," said Giorgi. "Together, we will continue to elevate our profession and make a lasting impact on our industry and communities. Thank you for your trust, support, and dedication."
Cardus reported, "The state of our Association is secure financially, politically and legislatively. The budget is healthy, and the books are balanced. We prepared for a big downfall this year, but it didn't materialize."
He said as of Monday, SILVAR had 5,065 REALTOR® members, just a drop of 2% from last year, compared to -4% at the National Association of REALTORS® and -8% at California Association of REALTORS®.
"There will be no dues increase next year. Last year was the first increase our Association has had in 22 years," Cardus announced. "We are here to serve you, our members, and we are receptive to member input."
Then he proceeded to highlight the legislative work undertaken by NAR, C.A.R. and SILVAR this year for the benefit of members and their clients, some of which include the increase in conforming loan limits, successfully defeating rent control measures like Prop 33, transfer tax and other real estate tax proposals and the expansion of COPA/TOPA programs. All of these wouldn't happen without legislative advocacy by organized real estate. (See expanded list Cardus cited last year).
In closing, Cardus conveyed his and the Association's thanks to members. "Thank you for your membership. We know you have a choice. I'm glad you chose us."
