SILVAR 2009 President Julia Truesdale Keady administers the oath of office to 2010 FAREPA President Richard Miller.

SILVAR, along with members of the real estate industry and public officials, congratulated the Filipino American Real Estate Association (FAREPA) Santa Clara County Chapter as the group's 2010 officers and board of directors were formally installed last Friday at the Domain Hotel in Sunnyvale.

The 2010 FAREPA officers are Richard Miller (MSC Advantage), president; Tess Crescini (Heritage Homes & Investments), vice president; Evelyn Greenleaf (First Southwestern Escrow), secretary; Jerry Quintos (Abbott, Stringham & Lynch), treasurer. The association's board directors are Ric Bareng, Jr. (Century 21), Cheryl Javier (CJ Financial Mortgage Group), Amado Rivera (Waldell and Reed), Ty Cabalsi (Cherry Creek Mortgage Company) and Patti Phipps (Interiors by Patti), directors.

SILVAR 2009 President Julia Truesdale Keady administered the oath of office to Miller, the association officers and board of directors. Also formally representing SILVAR were Jeff Bell, 2010 president; Gene Lentz, 2010 president-elect; John Tripp, director; Sue Bose, Grace Keng, Tom Cooper, members of the association's Equal Opportunities Committee; and SILVAR Public Affairs Director Rose Meily.

Both Keady and Bell congratulated the 2010 FAREPA leadership. They emphasized the importance of promoting cultural diversity in the region and stressed that SILVAR supports the Filipino American real estate group and its goals.

"SILVAR's goal is to promote homeownership for everyone, regardless of race. We are happy to partner with the Filipino American Real Estate Professionals Association to achieve this goal," Keady said. "We have a very large cultural diverse group and conduct all kinds of programs that help our members assist clients of all ethnic communities."

"We look forward to working with you in 2010 and we hope to strengthen our ties with the Filipino American and the other ethnic real estate associations in the Bay Area," Bell told Miller, who is a SILVAR affiliate and member of the Cupertino/Sunnyvale District.

Miller thanked SILVAR and other sponsors. He also publicly recognized and thanked his son Duane for helping take care of his grandparents, who have lived with the Millers for the past 20 years. Miller said he values the spirit of "ohana," which is part of the Hawaiian culture and means family in an extended sense of the term. Miller, who is from Hawaii, said his goal for the year is to strengthen ties with other associations and embrace diversity in the spirit of "ohana."

Public officials also present at the event included California State Assembly member Paul Fong (District 22), Sunnyvale Mayor Tony Spitaleri and former Milpitas Mayor Jose Esteves.

Members of FAREPA are actively engaged in the field of real estate sales and brokerage, property management, mortgage banking, and real estate development. Regular activities of the association include monthly lunch meetings, which serve as forums for feature speakers to discuss contemporary and critical real estate issues and for networking with other real estate professionals.

Also during the evening, the group's three chapters – FAREPA Santa Clara County, SF/Peninsula and Alameda County, also presented Gawad Kalinga a check for $10,000. Through the years, the FAREPA chapters have raised money to support this project, which seeks to build homes and learning centers for the poor in the Philippines.
