Cupertino, CA - The pumpkins and Halloween decorations are out in the stores, which usually signal fall and the beginning of holiday events. For Realtors and affiliates of the Silicon Valley Association of REALTORS®, this signals the time for HIF Home for the Holidays, the biggest charity fundraiser they hold to make sure no one in our communities is homeless this winter.
This year's 10th annual Home for the Holidays will be held on Thursday, Oct. 18, from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at The Avalon in Santa Clara. Coldwell Banker is the major sponsor for this event. The event ushers in the holiday season, featuring a Halloween theme and an evening that includes a gourmet buffet, live and silent auctions, a raffle, live music and dancing. Tickets are $50 in advance; $60 at the door. This year's grand prize drawing is a trip for two to Hawaii, donated by the HIF Board of Directors.
The Housing Industry Foundation (HIF) is a non-profit charity which helps individuals and families in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties remain in stable housing. Emergency Housing Grants, which are at the core of HIF's homeless prevention program, provide one-time emergency assistance without a lot of red tape to help individuals or families with rent, mortgage, utilities, security deposits and certain repairs.
"Sometimes individuals or families are confronted with a crisis. Our goal is to help them through their crisis so they don't lose their housing," explained Debbie Wade, executive director of the Housing Industry Foundation.
HIF is supported by the apartment, real estate and building industries. HIF's administrative costs are shouldered by board members, so the money raised from the Home for the Holidays event goes directly to the people in need.
SILVAR Realtors and affiliates support HIF through Home for the Holidays. Last year, Silicon Valley Realtors and affiliates raised over $75,000 for HIF.
"HIF's mission in keeping people in their homes goes right into the heart of our industry. This is a special event because the funds we raise from the event and through sponsorships go directly into HIF programs, stay in the local communities and go to very deserving people," according to SILVAR Realtors Robert Reid and Dale Collings, who have co-chaired the event for many years.
The public is invited to attend the event. Even if you can't attend the event, you can still buy a $50 admission ticket, which entitles you to three raffle tickets and a chance to win a trip for two to Hawaii.
