It was SILVAR's Cupertino/Sunnyvale District's turn to celebrate the holidays at its tour meeting yesterday, with a special breakfast and jovial singing of funny Christmas songs taken from the Internet. It was the last meeting of the year and Tour Meeting Chair Mark Burns thanked the District's REALTOR® members and affiliates for their support all year.

At the Los Gatos/Saratoga District holiday breakfast this morning, 2011 District Chair Doug Evans thanked members for their support all year. He especially thanked Vice Chair Chris Rasmussen, and the District Council, particularly Shawn Carroll and Matt Paulo, who assisted in the District's charity golf tournament in July.

The beautiful voices of the Mountain View High School Madrigal Singers echoed through the breakfast room and hallways of the Los Altos Hills Golf & Country Club, where members of the Los Altos/Mountain View District gathered to celebrate the holidays. Each year, the Madrigal Singers entertain members of the District with songs they sing in a capella. Their performance is one of the highlights of the District's annual holiday breakfast.

At the Toll House Hotel in Los Gatos last night, members of SILVAR's Los Gatos/Saratoga District celebrated their annual holiday gala and continued their longtime tradition of passing the gavel on to a new District Chair.

This annual celebration also recognizes Palo Alto District members who have contributed to the real estate community and community at large.

At yesterday's SILVAR Economic Seminar and General Membership Meeting, California Association of REALTORS® Deputy Chief Economist Robert Kleinhenz said the economy has improved, and for a while, there appeared to be a surge in the housing market, but wild cards in the domestic and international arena (Japan's earthquake and tsunami, oil price spikes, uprisings in the Middle East, stock market volatility, lawmakers wrestling with the debt limit ceiling and attempting to downgrade the U.S. debt, the debt crisis in the euro zone) dampened consumer confidence and, as a consequence, recovery has stalled.

Over 300 members attended SILVAR's Economic Seminar & General Membership Meeting held yesterday at the Computer History Museum. The general meeting began with a welcome to members by SILVAR Membership Committee Chair Bill Moody and SILVAR President Gene Lentz, a report by SILVAR officials on the status of the Association, followed by the introduction of special guest California Association of REALTORS® (C.A.R.) 2011 President-elect LeFrancis Arnold. The 2012 California Housing Forecast was later presented by guest speaker C.A.R. Deputy Chief Economist Robert Kleinhenz.
